Other than composition alone, the monochromatic scheme is useful for giving a little more emphasis on the shapes. On a concept basis, I think it's interesting how blue is often conveyed as a calming color, but here, it's the opposite. Whether it's intentional or not, it definately gives a new meaning to the color blue. Very innovative.
Even though the texture isn't very apparant at first, it definatly adds a little more pizazz to the painting. In most cases, it provides interest, yet it's also manages to break up space and create movement. There's alot of movement in the shapes themselves, but the drip lines make it orderly at the same time. It's another interesting concept conradiction.
However, a little more contrast would add emphasis or balance to the painting, depending on where it's added. For example, say the the values were strengthened on the corners, and the right side of the picture. There would be balance between the values and the left side (where a lot of activity is). That of course, on a emphasis idea, rather than compsosition.
Or what if...the main area of activity had strengthened values. The emphasis already there would sky rocket. Maybe whitening darkening all the neutrals in the peice would add a little more pizazz, unless a subtle look was necessary. Overall, I'm very impressed with this peice. It was a joy to look at it.

thank you for your kind words
its the balance of keeping a viewers interest and not overloading the picture that interests me the most i think.
